Help with changing your eGroup email address

VSA has its own Members' eGroup. It is easy to use, convenient, flexible and can be set up to ensure you don't receive lots of club spam (junk email). The eGroup makes use of Yahoo's free eGroups service and is set up such that it is private to VSA members.

Before you use the links that follow you will need to sign in to Yahoo - please read the Frequently Asked Questions if you need more information about signing in for the first time.

eGroup Features

A single address which enables you to post an email to the correct up-to-date addresses of all VSA members who are registered with this service, by simply clicking here.

The ability to control how you wish to receive postings made to the eGroup by changing your Delivery Options.  The options are:

individual emails - receive individual email messages;

daily digest - receive many emails in one daily message; and

no email - don't receive email; read the messages at the website.

The ability to view the entire history of messages that have been sent to the eGroup on the website. (This is similar to SAC round table - but not visible to the general Internet public).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Q1: How do I sign in to the eGroup website for the first time? / How do I sign up with Yahoo?

A: All you need to do is to link your email address to a Yahoo ID and provide a password. Simply follow the link below and you will be prompted to "Sign In". Click the "Sign In" link and if it is your first visit select the "Sign me up" link to create a Yahoo ID. Begin by clicking here.

Q2: What happens if my email address changes in the future?

A: This is one of the biggest advantages of the eGroup; no more emailing change of address emails around the whole club and having half of them lose/ignore it (conversely no getting such emails and having to keep your own address book up to date). Simply notify Yahoo of the change and eGroup mail will come to your new address. Once signed in, from anywhere on the eGroups website click on "My Preferences". Also see Help with changing your eGroup email address. Alternatively if you have never signed up with Yahoo and do not wish to do so, send a blank email from your old address to unsubscribe and one from your new address to subscribe.

Q3: How do I know the content on the eGroup is really private to VSA members?

A: The group is set up to be visible only to subscribed people and only subscriptions requests from paid-up VSA members will be granted. Beyond that we rely on Yahoo's subscription and login mechanism to keep the eGroup private. How secure is that? Well, no secure encryption (such as banks use) is employed so there is always an outside chance of someone snooping in on your session - it is unlikely but not impossible.

Q4: I don't want to belong to the eGroup, how do I unsubscribe myself?

A: Send a blank email from your old address to unsubscribe

Q5: Why is the eGroup called VancouverSoaring and not simply VSA?

A: VSA was taken - by the Vietnamese Students Association!

Q6: The advertising on the eGroup website is annoying - how can I get rid of it.

A: You can't. Since Yahoo eGroups is a free service we have to put up with it.

Q7: Why do we have to make use of Yahoo at all. Can't these features be implemented on the main website.

A: Maybe one day, but it would be a huge amount of work to implement something with even half the features.
